Overview
Buddha is a visceral exploration of the human condition, rendered in a raw and expressive style. At its center is the visage of Buddha—serene yet fractured—set against a chaotic tapestry of vibrant colours, erratic lines, and symbolic shapes. The piece confronts the universal struggle to find meaning, understand one's suffering, and reconcile the dualities of joy and sorrow that define the human experience.
This painting poses the existential question: Why are we here? Why do we suffer? How do we find joy and happiness? It challenges us to acknowledge life not as a gentle guide but, at times, as a relentless abuser. In this context, we are both victims and witnesses to our own tragedies—each mark and brushstroke is a record of inner conflict, a manifestation of the demons we carry and the pain we sometimes inflict.
Yet, embedded within the turmoil is a quiet striving—a pursuit of compassion, healing, and balance. Through the teachings of Buddha and the karmic path, we seek redemption not only from external hardship but from the cycles of suffering we impose upon ourselves. The tension between this aspiration and our flawed humanity is central to the work.
By merging spiritual iconography with an expressive, almost confrontational aesthetic, Buddha serves as a mirror. It reflects the ongoing battle between despair and hope, rage and peace, darkness and enlightenment—urging the observer to confront, feel, and ultimately transcend.
